First off who impressed you most during the indoor season, teamwise or individually?
What outdoor meet/invitational are you looking forward to the most?
What kind of meet do you like the best? ie. A.B.C. Meets, Relay Meets, Co-Ed Meets ?
Do you prefer Friday Night Meets, Saturday Meets, or Meets during school Nights?

Individually these girls...
Olivia Allen Toni Graham Natalie Tarter Will go 1, 2, 3 in the 100. Top two if not all three will run sub12.
The spoiler will probably be Jerrika Lewis(12.49/24.82)
I'm not sure if Tarter will run the 200m, but Toni Graham should win this one. Olivia Allen & Jerrika Lewis will probably make it a little hard on her. That should be the top 3.
Shakia Pinnick is impressive as well, but she needs to find a group of events and stick to it. She's gonna be a wreck if she's gonna keep running the heptathalon every week. She could be a threat in any event from 400 down, but she might not win any simply from fatigue.

50.3 is decent for the frist meet but if the kid is droppin 49.8s in practice, he should be runnin a lot faster in a meet, regardless if its his first open quarter in a meet or not.

Any one know the Johnson girl from Rock Island? Looks like she did a number on the Barrington girls Saturday at the Homewood-Flossmoor Invite. Won the 1, 2, and 4. - 12.18, 25.65, and a 56.18. Wow, don't know if the timing was F.A.T., still, that's flying for this time of the year. Where did she come from?

She was the number 2 sprinter on the team when her cousin Tia Harvey was there. She was always talented but it appears now she's coming into her own.

In case you've forgotten - potential and actual times don't exactly always match up. A 50.3 at this point in the year is pretty good and doesn't deserve a negative sounding comment from you. Maybe it's no Darien Donald time, but come on.

It wasn't negative, but it wasn't going be hey jeez this kid is the greatest ever. So good he runs faster in practice than at meets. Why is he even running 400's in practice?!?! Is he really an 800m runner?

yes, I am, You can get a lot more out of 250's, 300's, 320's, and 350's.
Early in the year, I can maybe see 4 x 400m @ 60-62s with 8-10 minutes of rest. However, I would rather see my kids doing 8 x 200m @ 30-31s with 3-5minutes rest, but right now 250-320's get me the 30s-40s of lactic acid work @ race intensities without actually doing the event and season long speed development. It's about building endurance for the event as a season long progression over the already built speed and continually building speed and the ability to maximize it and optimize it, not building endurance then trying to speed up. These aren't Baylor athletes and they don't possess the speed that Baylor athletes possess.
Doing 400's at race pace will only burn a kid out, and slowing down the time over the actual event distance only teaches pour energy distribution.

She kind of reminds me of Sherone Simpson from jamaica the way she runs. The 100m was neck and neck until the final 15m. The 200m was even coming off the curve, then she pulled away with Jerrika Lewis & Samantha Learch(spelling)close behind figting for 2nd. Lewis probably should have beat her in the 400, but ran far to agressive in the 1st 100m and faded in the last 100m. They were running into the wind for the 100, 200 and last 100m of the 400m. So the times even though their hand timed don't really show what she and the other girls are capable of. The top three girls would have probably run under 12.00 in the 100, and Johnson would have probably run 24.xx in the 200. Maybe 55 in the 400. I have video of the 100, 200, 100hdl, & 4x100

Dbandre I no for a fact that the coach from Romeoville has the kids running practice distances under 400m because that is what he has learned from college and other high school coaches. your post tells me that the work outs that I am doing are correct. Thank you for the backup. Now if my kids will just listen to me!

Dbandre I no for a fact that the coach from Romeoville has the kids running practice distances under 400m because that is what he has learned from college and other high school coaches. your post tells me that the work outs that I am doing are correct. Thank you for the backup. Now if my kids will just listen to me! That's cool, but I don't understand the original poster. It's ok to use overdistance too as there are many roads to rome, but the competitive season isn't typically the time or place regardless of training through or not and definitely not the time to do exact distance time trials or repeats. However, what I read into the post was the kid was doing 400m runs on a regular basis in practice and ran 49 point in one of them. If I had kid run 49 point in practice and 50 point at a meet unless there was some extreme weather I would do some re-evaluating. Getting the kids to listen is one of the hardest things to do and is the heart and soul of coaching. Even more important than a physiological training plan. Hey, most sprinters don't understand a day with 8x200m @ 8s off 200m race pace is essentially his least intense day. While the same workout to a mid distance runner is one his most intense days. I spend some time explaining to my athletes this concept and I reinforce it year round. All events require different training to be successful and out of fairness to all athletes I train them according to the events they are to compete in. If a distance runner wants to jump or throw, they will eventually have to become at least a mid, otherwise the training is contraindicative. You cannot do long jump training and miler training and expect consistent results in either event. One coach in class A will find this out later, I just hope that coach takes a short to long approach with this athlete and build the endurance necessary through the total volume of training which should keep the athlete's long jump relatively the same throughout the season and hopefully bring the athlete's mile time into the range necessary to compete successfully at the state meet. This kid is a tremendous athlete and I'll reserve judgment on the this kid and the romeoville one on their end of season results.

A good performance? Without the wind she could of ran state championship winning times in all three sprint events (2007 times) in the first week of April and you're saying she had JUST a "Good" performance? LOL If a girl in Illinois is running 55s, 24s and 11s in May, she is a superstar, I don't know what team you were following when you were taking the video, but if it's Rock Falls, I look forward to hearing about how her season progresses.

How have the class a meets been going around the state?? Are many getting run or has the weather put a damper on things? Just curious if anyone in class a has been in any big invites yet or just little ones.

You asked whether or not it was FAT, and I said no, but it was still a good performance. It's kinda hard to screw the clock up enough to get a 56 in the 400m. I don't know how excited you wanted me to be, but I wasn't talking down or being less impressed.

Hey fastbutnotquick, the answer to will it really snow on Saturday is yes. I know this because I was definitely running a portion of the 4x1600 in the snow because Rochelle refused to cancel their meet. It progressively got colder too.
Was anybody else at this completely ridiculous meet?

We went and our team did not benefit from it at all. You also forgot about the 35 mile an hour winds. If it wasn't for gedwill to draft off of I would have never made it. Our 13 foot pole-vaulter did not make opening at nine. Thats how bad it was Team scores: Belvidere North-122 Dixon-107 Rochelle-106. Thank God good weather is on the way.
