Sherrard can win it again. Look for Eureka to be tough as well along with Dwight. Any others out there I am overlooking? What did Seton Academy and Benton lose from last years 3rd and 4th place finishers?
What are your thoughts......

Who do you think will be the top runner in the 400, 800, 1600, and 3200?

Regina George is now at St. Gregory and will be competing in class A now. She could win both the 400 & 800.

Where is St. Gregory. With George, can they win it all?

I think that Alisa Baron could win the 400 if she's in that again this year. Who knows she may run the 800/1600 this year. whatever she runs i'd look for her to have a top 3 finish in all of them.

i personally think the IHSA should have rules to prevent runners like George from transferring. She will now dominate the state meet and end up with 30-40 team points. If Toni graham was to transfer she'd win the 100 and 200 with no competition from anyone, then everyone would make a big deal about it?

She transfered from a public school to a non-boundary school school. There is nothing skeptical about this, especially if she had a prior application. In this instance her parents have to put forth the money to go to the school. What the IHSA frowns upon is moving from 2 different private institutions or kids who actually don't live the district they go to school.

It is no cake walk in Class A either. Steph Brown ran under 2:12 by herself at sectionals and was sick during the state finals. Olivia Klaus has stepped her game too. There are some good 400 meter girls out there also. There is a lot of Class A girls willing to compete.

A couple of questions...what grade is George in? what school did she transfer from? and why?
I agree, the Class A field is no slouch. Can they compete with AA, no, but they are very tough in thier own right.

There was a problem at Gordon regarding the classes she needed (I believe).

I like Eureka, Sherrard, Dwight?. I am sure there are sleepers out there, but those teams look to be able to make some noise. I don't know what Seton Academy has back. Newton could be another team that can put up some points. Right now my pre-season 1-2-3 are Eureka-Sherrard-Dwight. I just don't know enough about the others right now.

Dwight has too many unknowns to be considered top 3

I thought Dwight was pretty young last year.
Who would be your top 3 for 2008?

Yeah they had 3 underclassmen who each went to state in an individual event and each sprint relay. However, if you look thoughtfully they'll need a 12.5s 100m, 25s 200m, 60s 400m person to replace the one they lost. Losing a second off the 4x1 time would put them almost out of qualifying, losing 2.5s in 4x2 would place them 5th, and losing 4s off a 4x4 and not scoring a single point in the 100m race will doom any hopes of a trophy. That team would have to focus less on relays and more on individual events to score enough points and their good athletes but there other good athletes in the state. They'll probably score around 15-20 points less this year. It's not a dig, but when you trophy at state from relay points mostly with only a 4 person team and you lose the fastest one it stands to reason they won't be as good as a team unless they find someone else with those skills.

After sherrard and eureka who's left? Benton, Byron, Newton, Rochester are some that come to mind. How can you all be sleeping on Benton?

Benton? Looking at last year's results, they return Orley who scored 33. Do they have anyone to go with her? Can Orley score 33 again this year? So you like Eureka, Sherrard, Benton in that order?
What will it take to win it all? 60 points? 50 points?

benton is getting courtney smith back who medaled in four events in 2006 as a sophomore, including two state titles.

Any thoughts on triple jump? The favorite has to be Leah Orley from Benton. Can anyone knock her off?

If I remember correctly, the TJ field from last year was quite young. I agree Orley is probably the favorite. The question is, Can she break the 40 foot mark this year?

Looking at the TJ finalist field from last year, 9 of 12 return including ALL of the top 3. Should be a great event by season's end and very competitive from top to bottom.

you guys are right there is no slouch in class A. but they arent as deep as class AA, in the 400 or 800. Im sorry that i didnt know she wasnt readmitted. but there has been times where people has tried to screw the ihsa over. But she will dominate class A.

The team title could go to a handfull of teams, IMO, depending on who is healthy in mid-May. As far as each individual event, I think you could see several individuals defend their titles from a year ago.
