The Girls Belvidere Sectional will be as tough as the boys with several teams that have a legitimate shot at qualifying; here are the teams in no specific order
1. ROCK FALLS 2. CRYSTAL LAKE CENTRAL 3. BURLINGTON CENTRAL 4. AURORA CENTRAL CATHOLIC 5. YORKVILLE 6. ROCKFORD LUTHERAN 7. MARENGO 8. SYCAMORE 9. KANELAND 10. ROCK ISLAND ALLEMAN
THE TOUGHEST SECTIONAL BY FAR IN 2A!

You left off Belvidere who just beat Rockfalls at Freeport and Freeport plus Belvidere North should be in the mix. Geneseo might also mix it up and Dixon has beat Kaneland and Sycamore (not at full strength).
Belvidere times at Freeport 2.98 that runs about 10-20 seconds slower than the state course 18:11.9 19:15 20:01 20:03 20:37 20:38

Does anyone have any information on the Belvidere Sectional course?
Mainly, is it mostly flat or rather hilly? Rugged terrain, paved paths, or prairie paths? Are there any characteristics that may lead to some intangibles that give any teams an advantage?

CORRECT ME!!!!!!!!! ABSOLUTELY WRONG ON THAT ONE; I WAS HOPING IT WAS BELVIDERE NORTH HOSTING THIS SECTIONAL! WELL CERTAINLY ADD THEM TO THE LIST OF TEAMS THAT COULD QUALIFY! HEY! WHY NOT THROW IN ANOTHER GREAT TEAM,WHILE WE ARE AT IT! GREAT JOB IHSA!!!!!!!!!!! I FIND IT AMAZING HOW THOSE IDIOTS CAN TAKE THE TIME TO SEED FOOTBALL INTO 8 CLASSES, BASKETBALL INTO 4 CLASSES, VOLLEYBALL AND EVERYTHING ELSE UNDER THE SUN! IN THE MEANTIME WE CAN KILL EACH OTHER OFF AT BELVIDERE IN 2A AND SCHAUMBURG IN 3A, WHILE THE SCHOOLS IN CHICAGO WITH THE EXCEPTION OF WHITNEY YOUNG GIRLS, WSF,AND IC AND TEAMS DOWN SOUTH SKATE BY!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE IHSA NEEDS TO GET SERIOUS ABOUT THIS GREAT SPORT OF OURS!

THE IHSA NEEDS TO GET SERIOUS ABOUT THIS GREAT SPORT OF OURS! While you're certainly right that these sectionals are overloaded with talent, I don't think it's fair to imply that cross country is the only sport that gets this raw deal. Football really seems to be the only sport where the IHSA seeds the best teams to avoid each other until late in the playoffs. In basketball, if two terrific teams happen to be close to each other, they will be in the same sectional and only one of them will make it to state (in the south suburbs, we have this problem with Hillcrest, Homewood-Flossmoor, and whichever Thornton Township school is best that year). In soccer, I remember my brother having to play in a so-called "Sectional of Death" that featured 8 of the top 10 teams in the state (as ranked by the Tribune). The opinion was that any one of those teams could win the title, but only one made it out of sectionals. And in volleyball, I'm pretty sure top teams like Marist and Mother McAuley will be forced to meet before the state finals. Again, you certainly have a right to be angry with your sectional assignment. The point is XC is not the only sport where this happens.

I've heard through the grapevine that the PRINCETON REGIONAL (which feeds into the Belvidere Sectional) will NOT be run at Princeton's normal course. Is there any truth to this?!?

Regarding the tough competition, part of me says, "You have to beat the best, whether it's at the Regional, Sectional, or State meet." That being said, if the purpose of the State meet in Peoria is to have the twenty best teams there, then having overloaded Sectionals is difficult to swallow. I guess that's just the breaks. But I don't think the IHSA has the resources to successfully rank all of the XC teams in the state (the key word there is "successfully" - look at the arguments on this message board regarding rankings/seedings - arguments made by people who follow the sport daily!).
I am reminded of the switch to three classes - How many of these (now) AA schools would even be mentioned in terms of potentially making it up/down to Peoria in the old system? As more and more teams feel they have a chance to advance in the state series, I think you'll see more participation and dedication to the sport of XC - and what's wrong with that? Absolutely nothing.
Good luck to all as the leaves start to fall.

The rumor is that the course will be laid out on the school grounds as their normal "home course" (Spencer Park) is too small for the event. If that is the case, it will be relatively flat, virtually no trees or trails. Now if they find a different venue, obviously this reply will have no validity.

sycamores #1 runner didnt race and she would of taken off 50 pts from the sterling score so they should be ahead of kaneland and way more up there because if the #1 ran and took off those 50 pts sycamore would of been ahead of rockford alleman at sterling too.

if sycamore runs well they can go far... they need to get out of their slump though... but they should most def be ahead of kaneland

I think any one of those top 11 teams are capable of qualifying; just depends on who will have the better day on 10-27?

Belvidere seemed to be a team initially under the radar, but certainly after Sterling they are no longer. I feel that they could be a top 3 team at Belvidere! I know that Sycamore girls are also very tough! If indeed they were missing no 1 look out!

Rock Falls is running without their top 2 girls..that ia almost impossible to overcome...with those 2 girls they had a great shot at a state trophy

you are right! I was aware of that and without those injuries they were my pick for the top team at Belvidere and a trophy team at state! Is there a chance that Castaneda or Russell will be back for sectionals?

What made you come to these conclusions? Especially since kaneland beat yorkville at conference

These are not necessarily predictions; but more a collection of teams that will be at Belvidere! Kaneland has an excellent team, and as I stated before, I feel any of the top 12 teams mentioned on that list could qualify! Again, it will come down to which 5 teams are the best on the day of the sectional. I feel it is fairly wide open. There are alot of different team dynamics that will make for a great race to watch. It will seem like a mini-state meet!

I think the Yorkville Girls team is a wild card in this sectional. They are not yet healthy, but will be by sectionals. If they put together what they are capable of, they could go as high as 4th, and as low as 12th if they don't. Conference was the same day as our schools homecoming and our 3rd runner was sick and ran three minutes slower than normal. This sectional will be a great race to watch and I look forward to seeing everyone run.

Coach, you and your staff have done a great job with your program. We certainly know what your girls can do! Your absolutely right about them qualifying! Health is such a critical issue now for all teams involved. We were hit with some health issues right before the Charger Classic; we can only hope that is behind us now Alot can happen in the life of high school athletes within a short period of time, which makes coaching this sport even more challenging!

So, what teams are making it out of Belvidere?
Crystal Lake Central
Aurora Central Catholic
Belvidere
Burlington Central
Sycamore
But maybe: Geneseo, Rock Isand Alleman, Yorkville
Probably not: Rockford Lutheran, Morris, Dixon

I think that 3 schools will be fighting for that last spot. Sycamore, Geneseo and Rock Island Alleman. They all finished within 8 points at regionals. Sycamore has the tighter pack, Alleman has the two stars, and Geneseo has a little of both. It should be a very interesting sectional saturday.
