I ran most of the cross country season this year with shin splints, and they have continued deep into my wrestling season. I can't really take a break from wrestling so i was wondering what else i could do to help heal them. I have to do a lot of running for cutting wieght and can't keep off my feet. Any info would be greatly appreciated
thanks

Don't know how viable this would be for you but here are a few options:
1) Eliptical Trainer 2) Pool Running 3) Rowing Machine
These are all certainly good aerobic workouts, but don't know how helpful they'd be as far as you need to make weight for wrestling. You could always just wrestle up.
Other than that, just lots of ice and stretching/strengthening exercises that you could get from an athletic trainer or online.

Rock,
In regards to the DARD - you mention that it is used every other day...
How many sets & reps are your athletes using?
How much weight?
Are you using any other exercises, etc. specifically to address the shin splint issue your teams have experienced?

Rock, In regards to the DARD - you mention that it is used every other day... How many sets & reps are your athletes using? How much weight? Are you using any other exercises, etc. specifically to address the shin splint issue your teams have experienced? We use 10 lbs. added to it. It is added in to the weight routine we follow, adding one set of 30 rep. We also stretch the calf area. I try to make sure that the team is outfitted in proper shoes, and use inserts when needed.

Did you get the 1" or 2" plate device?

Did you get the 1" or 2" plate device? We went with the 1" option.
