Curious: Obviously in the 200, 400, 4 X 200, and 4 X 400 the most competitors in any heat can be six.
How about the distance races? Numbers, with my guess... Girls AA 3200 - 11 (one heat) , Boys AA 3200 - 22 (two heats) Girls 4 X 800 - 20 (three heats) Boys 4 X 800 - 11 (two heats) Girls AA 800 -14 (two heats) Boys AA 800 -12 (two heats) Girls AA 1600 - 22 (three heats) Boys AA 1600 -17 (two heats)
Would like to see the races are not crowded so all competitors can get a clean run....

if X amount of the 23 kids in the 3200 AA race choose not to compete will they take it to one heat. How many kids would need to drop out?? my guess would be 2 or 3... as of now i know 2 that aren't running .

Looks like the decision is for one heat in most of th edistance races - will make for plenty of crowded banging, particularly in the AA Boys 800/1600. Good news - everybody is racing people, nobody is racing the clock. Bad news - some people are very likely going to get less than their best chance to run.
Tough call - I would have favored smaller groups and extra heats, but I guess putting everyone into the "fast heat" is going to be the decision.

Actually, the boys 800 and 1600 worked out okay with only one heat due to a few scratches/drops. As did the girls 800 due to multiple scratches/drops. (the quick turnaround from the 4 X 800 to the open 800 was a killer for some of the runners - less than 25 minutes...)
But the girls 1600 was way too crowded (about 20-21 runners) - made for some tough trips. I do have to note Verplank of BHS was in some of the worst traffic - caught on the inside, she had to drop way back to about 15th to work off the rail, then came all the way around on the outside to get into position so she could run down Benson on the last lap. So...obviously, it could be done, but not sure why it needed to be that way....

As Verplank's coach I was upset because they ran 24 runners in one heat. For the amount of time it took to line that many girls up they could have ran 2 heats. I think she could have ran faster if she did not have to run around all of the girls in that race.
