Running with the Buffaloes is an awesome book. It talks about both the team and training aspects of cross country.
Ultramarathon Man is another really good book.
For training, I'd go with Coaching Cross Country Successfully by Joe Newton or Daniels Running Formula.

Yeah in coaching daniels is hard to beat. I loved running with the buff's as well, but once a runner is just a amazing book. The guy is just a pure runner. That is how every runner either is or wishes they where (with the exeption of maybe the drinking).

Not that I want to encourage drinking, but the last time the US had a top flight distance crew from 800m to Marathon, they were drinkers, but they trained their butts off and tried different things out in training. It wasn't about pure mileage, but how could they make themselves better runners.
I didn't see "God on the Starting Line", a great read. Another great read and excellent book is "Pure Gold". Lydiard's "Run to the top" is decent, his words on the psychological part of running are probably the best part about the book, the training and nutrition stuff are not so good. Dr. Yessis's "Explosive Running" is a piece of garbage and the "science" used in the book is mostly psuedo-science. "Perfect Mile", is a well written book, gives you some idea of how much Percy Cerutty probably ruined Landy's chances to becoming the 1st 4 minute miler and how science and the belief in the science that Roger Bannister used to break the 4 minute barrier are in actually useful in preparing athletes in training.
Bowerman is a must read for anyone interested in coaching.

That is very true about the drinking, but let us not forget how that ended. Steve Pre ended up paying that price. Also I think Lydiard is a very good coaching book. The high miles program works amazing if you use it right. Don't forget Colorado, York, and even the Kenyans use motified Lydiard training methods. But if your going to debate milage we shouldn't do it here.

I don't know how many guys are gonna see this, but I just finished "Again to Carthage" the long awaited sequel to Once a Runner, and it is amazing. It is a must read for any runner.

One must add "Ultramarathon Man" to the mix. Okay, so it's not a "track" book, but, WOW! If you haven't read it, pick it up during winter break and read it. It'll take you only a few days to read it.
