Can anyone answer questions regarding IHSA rules. Newton was nabbed for the rule on contact days. Was anything done or said to the coaches of the kids who ran with York ?
If a football/basketball athlete have 25 contact days with each sport, why can't a cross country/track kid do the same ? Rules are very vague.[glow=red,2,300][/glow][glow=red,2,300][/glow]

each sport doesn't get 25 contact days!!! They together get 25 days. Are you certain? IHSA Bylaw 3.153 and Example 236 seem to suggest that this isn't correct...

From the 2006-2007 IHSA Handbook with illustrations page 65
"Q: If a person coaches more than one sport at a school, may he/she have a contact day in sport a on monday.Wednesday,Friday and a contact day in sport b on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday with the same student
A: Yes bylaw3.153"
Why is Kern being punished he coaches two sports. Also, what school believes that the assistants are responsible for IHSA rules. When there are rules interpretation meetings only the head coach has to go, any explanations?

The bylaw is worst one ever written I believe and you are confusing that a coach can have only 25 contact days. The coach is only allowed 25 contact days. The athlete is allowed 25 per sport.

I am very certain that if Coach A coaches both T&F and CC he would be allowed to conduct two separate summer camps, clinics or training programs, each being of 25 days contact. Any of his athletes would be allowed to attend both camps, clinics or programs if they chose to and to be at each for 25 days. The key to this scenario is that there are clearly two separate camps, clinics or programs required.
If IHSA were to visit a school’s CC camp and then the T&F camp it would require that each of the two camps would reflect the sport for which it was intended. Identity of the camps, clinics or programs would certainly raise concern.
I understand that in the York case there was clearly only one camp. One of the coaches attempted to justify his contact with the athletes under the premise that he was serving some kids as a CC coach and others as a T&F coach at the same camp at the same time and was not viewed as reasonable under the circumstances as they existed.

Kern is also a head track coach If Joe would be coaching track also his punishment would have been for the year too. The punishment from my understanding came down from York not the IHSA.

This was in a previous rules interp meeting as an example. Why is Kern being punished he coaches two sports. Also, what school believes that the assistants are responsible for IHSA rules. When there are rules interpretation meetings only the head coach has to go, any explanations? I'm pretty sure that a track day is any day you are on the track and an XC day is any day you are anywhere other than a track. This was in a previous rules interp meeting as an example. Also, it doesn't matter what coach goes to the rules interp meetings, it just has to be one coach from that sport, one coach for each gender unless the coach oversees both genders. And all coaches from a school can go, as often happens at many of the rules interp meetings and clinics. The coach that goes is responsible for getting the information to all other coaches and team members.
