Enrollments of Class A schools in Boys Elite 8:
Mt. Sterling 240 Putnam County 308 Maroa-Forsyth 367 North Lawndale 389 (with mutiplier) Farmington 411 Savanna (West Carroll) 470 Teutopolis 489 Nashville 582
Wow...those small schools are really having a tough time competing, aren't they? Nice to know that the geniuses at the IHSA still think we need 4 classes next year. I can almost hear the cash register ringing right now...oh, I mean, I can almost hear the joy of more participation for more athletes next year as they win the same watered down state tournament trophies as in other states. What a shame.

Despite your innuendo ... yes, those small schools are in fact having a hard time competing - 6 of the Elite 8 will be in AA and only 2 (Mt. Sterling and Putnam County) of the 8 will be the smallest class and both of them, Brown County (Mt. Sterling) and Putnam County, lost their quarterfinal game on Friday.
Many years some As will be competitive with the AAs, and some AAAs will be competitive with the AAAAs but overall the larger schools reign over the smaller as a whole year in and year out.
In the absence of single class competition, there is no logical argument for any particular number of classes being preferential to another.

In the absence of single class competition, there is no logical argument for any particular number of classes being preferential to another. We seem to disagree on this point. There is a point were there is statistical significance with respect to enrollment size with a 95% CI. Statistics is a field of mathematics and mathematics is ruled by logic. The IHSA refuses to use such scientific tools then again without valid methods an analysis with those tools is worthless.
