What's this nonsense I've heard about watches being banned in track/cross country?

This was part of a lengthy discussion on the Class A Board.
"An update:
10/15 Cross Country - Watches
This message is intended to provide clarification regarding the question of the use of watches being used during cross country competition. The track advisory committee recommended that wearing watches no longer be legal during track & field competition, beginning this season. The IHSA board of directors approved this recommendation at their October meeting. Cross country was inadvertantly included in the original recommendation. The question of the use of watches during competition relative to cross country must be reviewed by the cross country advisory committee in November. The committee may or may not make such a recommendation. Any recommendation that may be could not take effect until the 08-09 season."

Thats the most pathetic rule Ive ever heard. And I was also wondering...if we run individual races...in track, can we wear gloves other than that of our uniform color? Or does IHSA have a little silly rule against that too?

I'm pretty sure you can where what ever color you want, but IHSA is pretty crazy and might have a rule. As for the watches thing this is just another example of how how crazy IHSA is. I know we've already coverd all the reasons behind it, but I just don't see the value of it. Does anybody know if there is a distance runner on any of the IHSA boards? I mean somebody who has run over a 400?

Thats a really good question.
Is there any way to try to appeal that rule?
When Im running a mile or longer at meets with no clock, I dont always hear my coach yell my splits, so it would be nice to have a watch on hand.
I understand having the same color as a cross-country team...its just uniformity, but Id be confused if they have a rule against the gloves.
