I could only imagine what could have been if these collegiate sophomore runners were in the 2006 class A finals for 800m. This was by far the best 800m runner class ever in Class A and their collegiate results are proving it.
800m indoor results to date. Ulrey 1:50, Port Byron (UNI) - raced only 1600m state champ Phelps 1:53, Monticello (UI) - raced 400m race for team points Springer 1:53, Olympia (EIU) - never achieved potential Hatch 1:54, Nashville (Cornell) - raced only 1600m 2nd Koch 1:56, Tremont (Olivet) - was tripped up and injured during 4x8, clearly affected his finals race. Neisler 1:56, Olympia (St. Xavier) - was injured most of the season McBride 1:56 (last year), Sparta (SIUC) 3rd place. Oyler 1:58, Macon (Greenville) - State champ
I don't have any information on jake austin or mike belt. I don't know if they run anymore.

Could have been crazy, but I'd take what I got as is.
1. Stevens sets the state class A meet record in the 3200
2. Monticello sets the state class A meet record in the 4X800
3. Ulrey sets the state class A meet record in the 1600

Ulrey sets the state class A meet record in the 1600 That whole day was nuts, with Monticello just coming up a few points shy in 4th place and if Phelps ran the 8 and won he they would still would have wound up 1 or 2 points shy. I give coach Butler and those kids credit for trying to get a trophy. They got the state record and the state record wasn't going to happen in the open 8 for Phelps w/o Hatch, Ulrey, and Neisler. That 1600m race was nuts, I really don't like that Ulrey didn't take his pull and let charlie do most of the work, but then again if he did would we have gotten the record.
