The Sterling Invitational is this Saturday, October 6. Who do you think will win this race, individually, and team wise?

Neuqua valley returns the #1,2 ,6 12 14 returnees plus kids from the fresh/soph division that scored 39 points last year. also look for Pleasant Valley (Iowa), Iowa City, Contant, Schaumburg to be strong. Others Minooka,Dekalb Fenwick AA schools #1 ranked Sycamore #2 Rock Island Alleman, Dixon, Kaneland. I believe Belvidere north is coming and they are very strong in the lower levels. Class A Rockford Christian # 3

Some stand out individuals not listed among the teams include:
Mickow and his brother - Princeton (2A) will both provide some strong individual competition. Colin ran 15:10 recently.
Rockford Guilford (3A) has a strong individual runner in Noonan.
If Kaneland (2A) runs its top sophomores (Reusche & Markuson) in the F/S they have a shot at going 1-2 and maybe even setting the F/S record. I was really impressed by those two at Freeport.

Slooooooowwwww is right. In the seven years I've been sending my team to this meet...these are without a doubt the worst conditions I've seen on this at Sterling. The heat alone was awful. On top of that the grass was wet and soft and even muddy in some places. Terrible conditions...but great racing all around. Full results are up at www.timingiseverything.com

Went to the Invite on Saturday. Chris Derrick is awesome and my pick for 3A state. Campbell looked pretty good for 2A. What happened to the second place Pleasant Valley runner. I did not see him in the standings. The field was loaded with great competition, however the host didn't fair so well. looking forward to the state series.

As for the course conditions, this is cross country not track, the more mud the better, the wetter the better. I have seen the course at near flood stage, (all the ditches with 2 feet of water and low spots more than ankle deep) what a blast that was. The real invite was run on the hill course where you had to run or jump the creek, due to changes at the park they had to keep it all at Hoover Park. Still a good course though
