Does anyone know who the two or three boys that practically stopped close to the finish and nearly collapsed? They had run so well and were probably in the top 30 until they were passed by so many at the end.

Not sure of the other.

Thanks. Today's Daily Herald indicated that the other was Bill Wisser of Arlington Hts. Hersey who fell from 12th to 41st in the last few yards.

Those guys were great all year too. Bummer for them, I figured they were all-staters for sure. They're both seniors aren't they?

I believe they are seniors. I was about 50 meters from the finish when Wisser stumbled by, as he did his teammate Erik Stanton passed him and noticably turned sideways to him and yelled something to him. I felt he even slowed up a bit to do it. When I looked at the results Stanton was 26th.

That really sucks all the way around. Wisser, Riddle, Stanton. It doesn't get much suckier than that. All 3 should have been All-State (at least Riddle was last year right?).

He has had a stress fracture is whole year, this was his first race.
I know Nequa's coach talked to my coach about how to get a runner into racing condition for the state meet. Micah V. had the same stress fracture thing, only unfortunatly Riddle's race ended differently than Micah's. It was heartbreaking to see that happen.

I don't know, but if he did in the last 50 meters i could only imagine the physcial and mental pain of realizing ur Xc career crash before ur eyes coupled with an unforgiving surge of pain in ur leg, that would be horrible...

That really does suck. Riddle ran 14:46 at Detweiler on Sept. 8 (Woodruff Inv.). He definitely was a top 5 guy if he hadn't suffered an injury. It is absolutely amazing that he was even in contention to make all-state after being out so long. Insane. I hope he has an awesome track season!

Riddle posted a note about his finish on the Illinois dyestat forum.
Reading between the lines, i think he is expecting to do NTN with the team. So his XC season isn't over yet.

To xcnumberthree's question. My recollection was that Riddle fell a couple of times. Wisser appeared to lose feeling in his legs and struggled to the finish line, although never falling. Both lost about 25 spots.

But Derrick has stated himself that he has never broken 2:00 and I'm pretty sure he'll be concentrating on the 3200 as will Pawola most likely. The question is how good will York be this year? Graduating Kuczwara and Hinchley and the older Sulkin really hurts. They will reload but they don't have the big stud anchoring.

Will Achtein most likely run the mile this year? because i dont see why he cant help that 4 X 8 team out. Of course York will always be stacked in that department.

I was curious what the splits were for the guys up front. Anyone have any idea of the 1 & 2 splits for Derrick, Havel, Achtien, etc?

WHo knows right now but their best chance for points is for Achtien and Sulkin in the 3200 and possibly the 1600. And try to scrap together a 4 X 8 team with Talbot who is their top 800 returner from last year. They also had a pretty good sophomre 400 guy last year, don't know if he can make the stretch to the 800 or not.

Really, the 3200? I donno, that means they would have to go up against Derrick AND Havel. Not to mention Pawola who has proved himself worthy as a part of the Elite 2 milers. I think the Mile would be the best for him, i havent heard of anyone in the elite category running the mile...

Here are the top returners from last years AA 3200 (under 9:40). Seems to me that Achtien will have a great chance to score well in this event.
