As we congratulate all the runners from this past Saturday, let's not forget one of the best runners Illinois cross country has seen- Kevin Havel.
For four years, Havel carried the weight of great expectation, and delivered with remarkable results, even if he did not capture a high school championship. A four time all stater, four time top five (5th, 4th, 2nd, and 3rd) - never failing to deliver a top flight performance. Throw in an IESA championship as an 8th grader, and a 2nd place finish in 7th grade, and you begin to see the consistency over six years that marks what he has done as special.
Hats off to a fine runner.

Havel is an incredible runner. The only reason his time wasnt "fantastic" was because he went out with derrick and had the guts to compete with him and thought he could win. I still think he can get close to that 14 flat mark later during the season in a couple of post season races.

im glad this thread was made especially after i saw the thread called "havels lose" not only can the numbnuts not spell but he isfailed to take in account the talent and heart of kevin havel that i have seen the times that have watched him race he gave jager a hell of a race last year and he went for the front this year and unfortuantely for him he was unabe to stay with derrek, but he is by far one of the best and most consistent over his years as a high school runner major props to havel.

addicted2speed. i respect all the points you made about Kevin Havel, but before you make fun of someone else for not being able to spell, learn how to spell DERRICK. and yes, Havel is proven worthy of being a great runner. I hope he goes under 4 10 in the mile this year, and under 9 in the 3200.
