The meet administrators emphasized in the coach's meetings on Friday that the front numbers must be placed high on the chest, even covering the school name or nickname, for better recognition and reading on the course and at the finish. I heard several comments from coaches, administrators and parents that were annoyed or upset about the rule, especially with 2 hip numbers and back numbers worn as well. Being an impartial spectator is difficult when one is unable to tell what school the athletes are from. Obviously, anyone could argue either side of this issue. Did anyone hear comments and is there a possible alternative?

What's the point of even having your school name on your singlet if they are going to make you cover it up. There has to be a better way.

I don't really mind the numbers being in the front, what really got to me were the hip numbers. We put them on about 15 minutes before the race and they came off when we took our warmups off, because of that we had to spend extra time, that could have been used doing strideouts, putting our hip numbers on.

We just pined our hip #'s to our shorts so they wouldnt come off it worked well and we didnt have to spend time messing with them

your hip numbers must have come from a different batch. ours wouldn't come off without tearing and leaving adhesive on the shorts

Was the use of hip numbers something new this year or am I just not remembering it from last year?

I realize why the numbers are placed high but I also find it annoying when trying to figure out who's who w/o knowing the uniforms and seeing the names.

One way i think to take care of this problem.. keep the large number on the front and instead of numbers on the back have an abreviation of the schools name.. would be beneficial to coaches and runners.. think of being a runner and before the race you know which team you have to beat.. well wouldnt it be encouraging to know what team is right in front of you?

A lot of races have the persons name under the number. Maybe they could just have the teams name printed under the number. Use the $10 per car to improve the race.

That is a great idea! However, it will never work. 1) It is logical 2) It is cheap
