emerick didnt have much of a lead...a the mile mark, when they were coming across the field towards the finish (880 left) emerick and thompson were shoulder to shoulder with peterson and tedrick close behind....thompson just proved that he has the final speed and outkicked all of them and peterson put it all out and did jus barely catch emerick right before the mats! it was an awesome finish by all three!! congrats to all!

I talk to my buddy's mom on the phone after the race and she said Emerick was in the lead with 800 to go and Thompson ran him down. It looks like Peterson nipped him at the line too. My boy Jordan Patterson ran a good race. She said he was in 25th at the 800 mark, 12th at the mile and 6th coming out of the triangle. I must apologize to you and Tyler Durden for not giving enough credit to Jordan Patterson. He was for real, and he ran a great race today. Patterson and Feldhake were the only ones that I totally misjudged in creating my top 10. Feldhake just does not have it this year. It is ironic that he pretty much ran the same race that Thompson ran last year. I would like to get a better understanding of what has happened to him this year. Being a resident of the Peoria area, I have seen Thompson, Peterson, and Emerick race against each other many times over the past few years. I absolutely knew they would all make the top 5 and Thompson would be unbeatable. What some people might overlook is that Emerick probably ran the best race of anyone in the top 10. He has been beaten rather badly by Thompson, Peterson, Tedrick, and Patterson this year. Since he does not have a kick like the other guys, he has to take his best shot in the middle of the race to have any chance of winning. That is exactly what he did, and he came a lot closer to pulling it off than almost everybody expected. Just a super gutsy effort by a guy who has put his heart and soul into running for the past 4 years. A great deal of credit should go to Emerick's coach, Gregg Meyers, for enabling the kid to run the best race of his life in the state finals. Many people were thrown off by the mediocre race that Emerick ran in the sectionals. But if you knew how hard he had trained during the week prior to the sectionals, it all made a great deal of sense. Central Illinois should be very proud of how they were represented by Thompson, Peterson, and Emerick in the state finals this year.

Tyler and I forgive you. Patterson flew under the radar quite a bit this season, especially since he raced in smaller invites down here and usually won by a landslide. Jordan is a good kid from a great family and I'm glad I've been able to watch his progression over the last four years. He's being recruited by some D-2 powerhouses and I bet his stock has risen considerably after today's race.
I wish Emerick had pulled off the win though. Elmwood guys just wan't seem to win an individual title. I think they've got the most individual third place finishes out of any school in the state.
Good job to everyone!

what do you guys think about tedrick taking a shot at the win? it was pretty gutsy when all he needed to think about was beating elmwoods #1. At least he held on long enough to not finish worse than that. Emerick had a great race to come through for elmwood. Everyone it seems took a shot at it.
Feldhake right after the mile Grahm Morris responding to the move and going with him. Tedrick right at the 1 1/2 Peterson/Emerick moved when Tedrick did Peterson/Emerick passing Tedrick just after the 2 mile Tedrick Hanging on for as long as he could. Emerick down and around where the 1 mile was Peterson fighting it out with tedrick down the hill Parker coming on strong Parker/Peterson passing tedrick again just before the 1/2 Emerick/Parker/Peterson Shoulder to shoulder with 1/2 left.
Outstanding race to everyone. Congradulations.

Yep, that's clue I was looking for since I didn't have one. It's been excuse after excuse with the Feldhake lovers. Matt's a great kid, but I said this on the old board he races too much. It caught up to him last year in Track, I thought it might get to him in XC last year. I was off by a sports season. However, he runs summer track, in which he put up a 5k time that he never approached on a shorter courses or even the St. Joe race. He runs in the winter time indoors in races. I personally like Matt, I find enjoyable to be around and think he's a great competitor and the last thing he needs a fan club that includes you. The difference between Matt and Parker is I know how good Parker can be and the things he can do and he's able to do. With Matt I cannot just because he races too much.

no one is claiming dbandre is infallible, but the man knows more than a little about track and field. why some make unintelligent responses to his reasoned comments is beyond me. if you are going to disagree with him, at least try a bit of logic or accepted theory or an occasional fact.

I've gotten it straight from the horses mouth dude. Matt is my friend. Racing has 0 to do with it. He sustained really bad blisterings which he had to run on for 4 weeks that limited his training, Then he got a slight case of tendonitis. You don't know as much as you think you do. We all know how good matt can be, cause he won state last year. This has been matt's only bad season EVER. Your the one that is arrogant and pompous believe you know everything to do with anything but you don't, you simply don't. I picked Matt in 1430 because i know it is what he wanted preseason and he knows himself better then anyone else. Tell me, where do you coach at Mr. dbandre? How successful are your athletes?

The first thing is you're not Matt. Secondly, the middle school program I coached xc at and built finished 2nd at state this year in IESA under another coach. I am on record stating that her coaching is what led them to that finish in her first year. My only part was building the program from 11 runners to 20-25 runners. If you want to talk about my athletes, I have zero state champions if that's what you are looking for and makes you happy. Thirdly, I don't coach at any HS at this moment and I may or may not during track season because my family has a brand new addition born this xc season. There is no way I could coach effectively with a new child who happens to be my first child. I do coach over the summers and winters and provided one on one lessons last track season while in graduate school. If you want to know to really know, you can ask any kid who ran for Olympia's MS XC team from 2004-2006 and for the Olympia girls track team who ran from 2005-2006 and for just about any senior in hs in Clinton who wishes I was still their track coach or you can ask the kids from Bloomington HS who trained with me over the last summer.
I have said Matt races too much for 2 years now!!! It's not arrogant to be right, it's arrogant to be wrong and not admit you're wrong. Matt raced in 14 major XC meets last year and won all of them. It's an IHSA record and likely will not be broken for a while. Why?? The season is only 14 weeks long. It only takes 5 or 6 races at Matt's level to be prepared to run a fast race. It saves the psychological will needed to run great races and allows for greater training time and rest which races take away from. There has been ZERO adaptation by matt or his body.
Just last week, it was said Matt was training through sectionals last week for a breakout week at state. Were or were you not apart of this? Where was the blister excuse then. Matt didn't give any excuse then. So why is it now???
Just as an aside: I don't know how someone who runs so much can possibly have blisters. I don't know many runners even HS runners who blister problems mid season because the soles of their feet are hardened. The typical problem is new shoes that bite into the achilles heel causing a blister there or a new shoe thats to tightly or loosely on a prominence of bone. If it's a medical condition then he shouldn't have raced until healed. period end of story.

Your accomplishment is getting more runners out? Who cares if you get 1000 runners out and none of them do nuts. Even then you compltely contradict yourself when you say the new coach got them to 2nd place at state, not you. Looking through all those results i see nothing impressive, unless you cinsider mediocrity impressive then job well done.

Anybody can recruit, hell if bill cosby was my coach i would come out, doesn't mean he knows thingy about running.

kcor - I can understand your desire to defend and protect your friend. I think that is admirable. I read these threads and the general consensus seems to be a genuine concern for Matt and his struggles this season. I do think that most everyone on her believes that Matt is a lot better than 15:20 and he struggled most of the year to run even close to that. To me it is incredibly important for a runner as good as Matt is to take a look at what went wrong this season so that he can gameplan on how to fix it. I get the impression that Matt is a no excuse kinda guy. The bottom line is that dbandre is either right or wrong, but the important piece is to at least ask the question and seek the answers with as much honesty and openness as possible.
I can tell you that I am personally rooting for Matt. I want to see him reach his potential and I truly believe that is a shared opinion on this board.

I might add that what Matt communicated is what running is all about. When I coached I truly believed that running is a microcosm of life and any coaches who just coach athletes or just train student athletes misses the boat. Running has a lot of lessons that are applicable to real life situations and Matt just took us to school on two of them. Matt - that is classy the way you handled defeat. I am also incredibly impressed with the Tremont Coach. There is a guy that understands what it means to be in the trenches of life with other people! Coaching should be about character building as anything else and he just modeled at the highest level. Isn't cross country the greatest sport on earth

I know this is the Class A thread, but I am curious what some of you guys thought about Derrick's performance yesterday. I thought it was the greatest individual performance in IHSA cross country history! Agree or disagree? Maybe this isn't the place for that discussion??

Agree or Disagree with this: The guy driving the chase truck was dumb. I agree. He could have kept a steady pace instead of pumping and letting off of the gas, thus making his tires slow and turn fast kicking up dirt and dust. When I came out of the back section the dust was so bad that I had my head down. In the 3A boys race, they were too close to the leads. Derrick and Havel had their heads down a lot of the time because of the dust.

The dust annoyed me. I dried my mouth out a ton when I was racing. I didn't notice it untill all the moisture got taken out. I did try to ignore it though because I knew Peterson, Emerick, and Thompson were hot on my heels.
